JOB ADVERT - Trauma-informed youth mentor roles

NEW jobs available – become a trauma-informed youth mentor

Trauma-informed Youth Mentors – multiple roles available

The role

You will be required to provide a safe space for young people with complex narratives, helping them to form a healing, therapeutic relationship with you that’s rooted in Trauma-Informed Practice. The young people you work with will either be out of mainstream education or struggling to engage in mainstream settings, needing support, guidance and opportunities to grow their sense of self and gain understanding of the world around them.

This role is a relationship-based role where you are expected to be highly skilled in developing relationships and rapport with young people who often don’t trust adults, feel let down, are disengaged and have challenging behaviours. You will recognise each young person for their own unique character and personality – this creative role is not a one-size-fits-all product but one that requires skill, passion and dedication to being an emotionally available adult that can help with the wraparound care of each young person we are privileged to come alongside.

Working face-to-face, you will provide both 1-to-1 and group sessions. This may involve travel to the location of the young person and travelling to various other locations. You will need the ability to risk assess in the moment, make informed decisions and work instinctively and spontaneously throughout the sessions. You will work with multiple young people each week so the ability to manage your own wellbeing is vital, as well as the ability to ensure any problems with one young person don’t spill to another. You must be able to create stability and safety at all times.

Please note there is a requirement to undertake a range of physical activities alongside the young people we work with including intense exercise such as climbing, a gym session, water based sports and more so a good level of fitness is required.

The Pioneers Project CIC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of everyone in our care and therefore this post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. In line with The Asylum and Immigration Act 2006, we will only accept applications from candidates who have the legal right to work in the UK. The Pioneers Project CIC is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their gender, age, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, and/or religion.
