From forgotten to cherished
The Bull Point Barracks, much like the resilient people of Barne Barton, are at risk of being forgotten. But we have the power to change that narrative. This site, steeped in history, deserves to be remembered and cherished, just as the community of Barne Barton does.
By preserving the Barracks, we’re not only safeguarding a piece of history but also honouring the stories and strength of Barne Barton. The Barracks stand as a testament to the architectural brilliance and military significance of the 18th century, with their original defensive walls and stylistically coherent structures. They are a rare surviving example of defensible barracks from the 1840s-50s, unique in their historical context and importance.
Restoration and vibrancy
Our mission is to keep the spirit of Barne Barton alive, ensuring that both the people and the place continue to thrive. This redevelopment project is more than just a restoration; it’s about creating a vibrant community hub that addresses the pressing needs of Barne Barton residents. Through this transformation, we aim to provide accessible services, programs, and spaces that enhance health, wellbeing, and social cohesion.
The redevelopment will celebrate the site’s heritage while offering new opportunities for education, recreation, and community engagement. By turning the Barracks into a multi-functional hub, we are fostering a sense of belonging and pride among residents, and creating a future where history is not just remembered but actively lived and appreciated.
Lisa Dawson, our CEO, says: “As someone who has lived and worked in Barne Barton for over 26 years, I am deeply committed to this project. The Bull Point Barracks are not just a piece of history; they are a symbol of our community’s resilience and potential. By preserving this site, we are honouring our past while building a brighter future for Barne Barton. Together, we can create a space that reflects our shared heritage and aspirations.”
