Men’s Group: Building Connections, Supporting Wellbeing

A Safe Space for Men in Our Community

Twice a month, a small group of men gather at the disused platform at Victoria Road Railway Station—not just to garden, but to talk, share, and support each other. Our Men’s Group is a gentle, welcoming space where blokes can be themselves, away from life’s pressures.

Why It Matters

Men’s mental health is often overlooked, but a simple chat over a gardening project or a cup of tea can make all the difference. We’ve seen participants grow in confidence, manage anger better, and feel less alone.

Growing Together: Our Partnership with Marine Academy Primary School

We’re excited to share that our Men’s Project is now working in partnership with Marine Academy Primary School. Starting this September, the school will use the platform, as their forest school and outdoor learning environment. Our men’s group will continue to maintain and develop the space, ensuring it remains a safe, inspiring, and welcoming place for local children to learn and explore. This partnership is a fantastic example of how community-led projects can create positive opportunities for all ages—supporting men’s wellbeing while helping the next generation connect with nature

What Our Members Say

“Great atmosphere, great people working hard together as a team plus you make good friends, makes me a happy person, and it’s for a great cause”

— Paul, group member

“The project offers men a means of building a friendship with others, learning new skills and teamwork whilst being involved  in a worthwhile project for the community.

There is humour and great banter, it’s great fun and it helps to build yourself up mentally.

It helps me out with my mental health and helps me relax”

— Rich, group member

A Word from Steve, Men’s Project Coordinator

“I’ve seen first hand how powerful a bit of conversation and connection can be. Every session, I’m reminded that it’s the small things—a shared story, a helping hand, a laugh over tea—that build trust and resilience. If you’re thinking about joining, just know you’ll be welcomed as you are. We’re here for each other, and there’s always room for one more.”

Room to Grow

We currently have space for more members and would love to welcome new faces. Whether you’re looking for support or just some good company, you’ll find it here.
